Using KRK Rokits For DJing (Good Idea Or Not?)

KRK Rokit monitors are pretty good for DJing, depending on the intended purpose. KRK monitors will suit you well if you want to DJ in your room or a small get-together. However, if you perform at a club or a more significant event, you will want a proper PA system.

DJing With KRK Rokit Studio Monitors

As a DJ, different tasks and events call for various music equipment.

Sadly, It can sometimes be hard to know what gear you can and cannot use for specific applications.

Thankfully, if you take your time and do some research, you will learn more and more about your musical equipment as well as its capabilities.

I’ve learned that the longer I own and use a piece of gear, the more competent I become with operating it.

In this in-depth article, we are going to take a look at whether or not you can use KRK Rokit for DJing.

Are KRK Speakers Good For DJing?

The answer to this question depends on the situation you are considering using them for.

Let’s take a look at a few potential scenarios and whether they would be an appropriate time to use KRK Rokits or not.

Having a Jam

If you are a DJ for hobby/bedroom DJ and are just looking for studio monitors to use to jam in your room or practice your chops, KRK Rokit studio monitors will suit you just fine!

If you are not a serious gigging DJ, KRK Rokits will give you all the power and frequency response you might need.

Working On A Mix

If you are a DJ/music producer who needs speakers to use to work on a mix in the studio, KRK Rokit studio monitors are worth looking into, in my opinion.

Although higher-quality studio monitors are available, KRK Rokits are a viable option that won’t break the bank!

Doing A Live Stream

Suppose you are a bedroom DJ/music producer looking to do a live stream set from your home studio. In that case, you should consider using KRK Rokit studio monitors as your speakers.

Because they give you decent frequency response and a balanced punchy bass sound, I think KRK Rokits are great studio monitor speakers for doing a live stream set.

However, suppose you are a big-time music producer/DJ doing a highly produced and professional live stream set. In that case, you might want to consider investing in some more serious DJ monitors.

DJing A Small House Party

If you are looking to do a quick DJ set at a small house party or get-together, I believe KRK studio monitor speakers will give you just the amount of power that you need.

Keep in mind that this is only the case for small functions. If you are planning on DJing a huge house party with tons of guests where the music is super important, you will want a more legit live sound setup with a PA speaker set.

Performing At A Club or Bigger Event

If you have a performance at a club or bigger event, Rokit studio monitors will not cut it.

KRK Rokits are an example of studio gear; they are not intended for a live sound system and will not provide enough power to perform at a club or larger event.

Mainstage PA Speaker System

Most clubs you will perform at should have a live sound system and a PA speaker system that you can hook up to.

Overview

As you can see, KRK Rokit studio monitor speakers are great for DJing in the studio or for a small party, but when it comes to a major function or club show, you will need a PA speaker system.

Remember, there is a big difference between studio gear and live sound gear!

The KRK Rokit studio monitor is an example of a powered speaker/active studio monitor, which means that it has its own power supply and does not require an amp.

I prefer an active studio monitor to a passive one because you do not need to invest in additional studio gear to use them.
