Listening To Music On KRK Rokit 5’s (Good Or Bad?)

Because KRK Rokit 5’s has sufficient low-end punch and improved clarity, these studio monitors are great for listening to music. Although studio monitors are more for music production, you can use KRK Rokit 5 for music listening.

Using KRK Rokit 5 Studio Monitors For Listening To Music

Nothing is less satisfying than listening to music on a pair of speakers that sound thin and dull.

Thankfully, if you have a pair of KRK Rokit 5 speakers, you can use them to casually listen to music, not just produce it.

I mostly use my KRK System speakers for music production, but I also love casually listening to music on them!

Today, I want to show you whether or not KRK Rokit 5 studio monitors are suitable for simply listening to music.

Are Studio Monitors Good For Casual Listening?

I think studio monitors are great for music listening and not just music production because of their sufficient low and high-end frequency response, precision, and clarity.

Although you don’t need a pair of studio monitors to have an enjoyable music listening experience, they do sound great if you have a spare pair to use.

You can listen to music on just about any pair of speakers. Still, studio monitors are certainly an option worth considering.

Should I Use My KRK Rokit Monitors For Music Listening?

KRK Rokit studio monitors are for audio and music production, but you can use them to listen to music.

Rokits are not lacking in low or high-end power and presence, so I think they are a terrific option for a pair of music-listening speakers.

KRK Rokit 7

Although you don’t need to use studio monitors to listen to music, KRK monitors have a balanced sound that is great for jamming your favorite tunes!

If you haven’t got yourself a pair, you can check them out HERE.

I highly recommend using them to listen to music.

Are There Other Options For Music Listening Speakers Than KRK Rokit 5s?

Although KRK Rokit 5s are a decent pair of speakers, there will always be other options for music listening speakers.

Here are a few alternate options for speakers that you can use to listen to music:

  1. Sony SSCS5s is a low-cost option for music listening speakers made by a reputable and known brand. If you are looking for a decent pair of speakers that won’t cost you too much, you should consider the Sony SSCS5s.
  2. Yamaha NS-6490s are another low-cost option for a cheap but effective pair of bookshelf speakers. I have a couple of Yamaha speakers myself, and I must say, I recommend them!
  3. JBL Stage A120 bookshelf speakers are another option for affordable but decent music listening speakers. JBL is a top-rated maker of speakers these days, and I recommend considering this option.
  4. Klipsch RP-600 M bookshelf speakers may be a bit pricier than some of the other options I have listed here, but they are a step above in terms of sound quality. Consider giving Klipsch a shot if you are in the market for music listening speakers.
  5. KEF Q350s are more expensive than the other options I have provided. Still, they offer exceptional sound quality and performance. If you have some extra money to invest in speakers, check out the KEF Q350s.

Keep in mind, at a certain point, selecting speakers for music listening is a matter of preference and not fact. Don’t blow all your money on a set of speakers if you already like how your current ones sound!

Can You Use Studio Monitors As Speakers?

Although studio monitors are primarily for audio and music production, you can also use them as speakers for other purposes such as music listening, gaming, DJing, etc.

Studio monitors are not the right option for every application (I don’t personally recommend them for viewing TV and film), but they offer a balanced sound. They will often suit you well if you are looking for a solid pair of speakers.

Do I Need a Subwoofer With KRK Rokit 5?

You do not need an additional subwoofer with KRK Rokit 5 studio monitors, but you can add one to your setup if you want to.

KRK S10.4 S10 Generation 4 10" 160 Watt Powered Studio Subwoofer

Because KRK Rokit studio monitors have both a tweeter and a subwoofer, there is no need to add a subwoofer to your studio rig unless you are looking for increased bass response and low-end power.

Working in a bass-heavy genre like hip-hop or EDM is the only reason I could see a need to add a subwoofer to your audio monitoring system.

Check this article for a deeper dive into the bass on the KRK Rokit 5.

How Loud Are KRK Rokit 5?

KRK Rokit 5 studio monitors are 55-watt monitor speakers.

KRK Rokit Rear Display

This might not sound like a ton of power compared to other KRK Rokit sizes ranging from 145-300 watts. Still, unless you have a large studio space, there is no need for super powerful studio monitors.

For example, I work in a mid-size room, and I rarely even turn the volume on my KRK Rokit 5s over the halfway mark.

Although a bigger acoustic environment requires more powerful studio monitors, KRK Rokit 5s provide plenty of volume in most personal/home studio applications.

Which KRK Rokit Is Best?

The answer to this question depends on your situation and the size of your acoustic environment.

For example, if you operate out of a small home studio, KRK Rokit 5 G4 studio monitors will provide you with all the power you need to monitor your music and produce quality music.

However, if you work in a large studio space, you may need more powerful monitor speakers such as the Rokit 7sRokit 8s, or Rokit 10-3s.

The size of studio monitors you should use always depends on the size of your studio and your volume needs.

Related Questions

The tweeter is the speaker component that plays high-end frequencies, and the subwoofer is the speaker component that plays low-end frequencies, AKA bass.

Do You Need An Audio Interface To Use Studio Monitors?

Not necessarily, but an audio interface is the easiest and most efficient way to use studio monitors.
If you plan on using your studio monitors with something other than an audio interface, you might have to spend extra money on cables and adapters to connect them.

How Much Should I Spend On Studio Monitors?

This depends on your budget and your musical needs.
For example, if you have a ton of money saved up and are pretty serious about music production, you could invest in a pair of high-end studio monitors for $1,000-$1,500 or more.

However, if you are short on cash or are only pursuing music production as a hobby, you do not need to invest more than $400 on a pair of studio monitors. You could even go lower if you don’t care too much about sound quality.

Are KRK Speakers Any Good?

KRK studio monitors are self-powered, which means they are active studio monitors
Each studio monitor has a plug that you must plug into a power outlet. Still, you do not need an amplifier to power your KRK studio monitors. This is an example of a powered studio monitor.

Is There a KRK App?

There is a KRK app that you can use to calibrate your KRK studio monitors to your acoustic environment.

The KRK Audio Tools app can help you select an EQ setting, calibrate, and place your KRK System monitor pair. If you have a KRK System monitor pair, you should consider using the KRK app to achieve balanced sound within your studio space.

The best part is that the KRK app is free!

How Important Is Speaker Placement When It Comes To Music Production?

Speaker placement is pretty vital to producing high-quality and professional music.
If you do not have your speakers adequately placed within your room, you will not get an accurate representation of the sound of your mix, and your music will suffer for it.

Keep speaker placement in mind when setting up your studio space!

Final Words

As you can see, you can use KRK Rokit 5 monitors for music production and casual music listening.

KRK Rokit 5 speakers have a powerful low-end and precise high-end frequency response that makes them very pleasant to listen to music on.

Of course, you shouldn’t invest in music listening speakers without researching and checking out your options.

Still, if you are looking for a high-quality and low-cost pair of speakers that you can use to produce and listen to music, you should consider investing in a couple of KRK Rokit 5s.
